Your first expedition

Before leaving the Overworld, build a workshop that can power your equipment—and pack enough oxygen and fuel to come home.

These guides describe the October 23, 2026 development version. The older download with the same version number is missing later features.

  • Engine Module1
  • Navigation Module1

Make

  1. ResearchUnlock First Flight: no discovery data cost; complete a scan and power the Survey Terminal first.
  2. Assembly1,200 game ticks (60 seconds at 20 ticks/s); 48,000 FE of energy.
OUTPUT1 Scout Ship

Supply fuel and filled life support separately. This guide describes the October 23 source version; the older JAR with the same label lacks later systems.

Check your input

Use a build matching the October 23, 2026 source snapshot, declared 0.0.1-p0, before following this path. It targets Minecraft Java 1.21.1, NeoForge 21.1.252 and Java 21 and requires client and server installation. The old October 5 JAR shares the version but lacks the reported later quests and outbreaks; a matching new distributable has not been verified here. See build identity.

1. Make the Overworld workshop

Gather iron, copper, redstone, glass, leather and furnace materials. Make Conductive Plates and Circuits, then a Generator, Battery, Survey Terminal and Survey Scanner. The bootstrap recipe table gives complete per-craft inputs and outputs; this progression does not need an alien ore.

Burn furnace fuel in the Generator and place/connect machines to receive FE. Charge the Survey Scanner in the Battery’s charging slot. The Battery accepts and outputs on every face. Cables extend the energy network; owning a Battery does not mean it is charged.

2. Satisfy First Flight

Hold use on a supported scanner target until the scan completes, and supply FE to the Survey Terminal. At the terminal, unlock First Flight. It costs zero discovery data, but you must complete a scan and power the terminal first. A free node can still be locked. Consult scanning and research if either condition is missing.

3. Prepare reserves before leaving

Craft the Exploration Harness, Oxygen Condenser and Oxygen Canisters. Supply water and FE to the condenser, fill the canisters and equip the harness and spare canisters through Gear (H). Gear has its own slot, leaving armor available. Check oxygen, suit energy and hazard protection independently; a newly crafted empty canister supplies no oxygen.

Keep spare oxygen, fuel and repair stock for the return journey. This is suggested preparation, not a quantified guarantee of expedition duration. Life support explains the different environments and drains.

4. Assemble the Scout

Scout assembly inputs: Hull Frame, Engine Module, Navigation Module and Battery; full operating costs follow

Assembly process diagram, not a 3×3 crafting-grid recipe. First Flight, 1,200 ticks and 48,000 FE remain separate requirements.

At a powered Assembly Cradle, provide one Hull Frame, one Engine Module, one Navigation Module and one Battery. The packaged recipe requires First Flight, 1,200 ticks and 48,000 FE, and loads only when its required Battery component is available. Its output is one Scout Ship. The process panel above keeps ingredients, research and operating costs separate.

Make Fuel Pellets in a powered Refinery: one coal-tag item and one redstone produce four pellets for 200 ticks and 4,000 FE. Add fuel to the ship; each pellet provides 100 fuel units. Place the ship on the ground, board it and inspect Ship Panel (I) for resources and fitting.

5. Launch and choose a first world

Use W/S for thrust, A/D to strafe, Space to rise and the sprint binding to descend. Climb to the launch threshold shown by the travel interface and request Launch/Land with J. In space, G opens navigation and holding Z activates pilot pulse cruise. These are rebindable defaults; older README L/X instructions are stale. Use the controls reference to distinguish on-foot, seated and interior actions.

Choose reachable Verdance, a breathable, temperate charted world in Hearth. Approach the planet/landing target and request landing. Watch transfer preparation and completion messages. “Waiting for terrain” is a documented flight safeguard; the UI showing an approach cue does not mean the transfer finished.

6. Make a useful trip and return

After landing, scan different creatures and materials and gather resources within your reserves. An outpost is not guaranteed at player spawn. Leave enough supplies to return rather than depending on an undiscovered service location.

Plan and select the home return before spending your outward reserves; use the Overworld home destination in navigation. Check the travel and recovery guide for terrain preparation, EVA, restart and emergency distinctions.

The intended first result is a powered workshop, unlocked First Flight, a fueled Scout, filled life support and a completed trip with a return path. If an installed build lacks a required screen or recipe, check its source/JAR identity and pack overrides before assuming the guide describes that archive.
