Skin hygiene and cleaning
Clean the right thing: washing your skin, laundering clothes and rinsing a sponge are separate jobs.
Cut a dry sponge into cleaning sponges
Placed dry vanilla sponge block; G radial
Gather
- Dry vanilla sponge block1 placed block
- Permitted cutting tool1 held tool; 1 wear at completion
Make
- Cut into Cleaning SpongesHold G on the dry block and complete the 5-real-second action.
Cut the placed block through the interaction menu. A wet sponge must dry first; this is not a crafting-table recipe.
Three different cleaning jobs
Explanatory diagram based on the report; not a gameplay capture. Skin washing, garment laundry and sponge rinsing affect different state. This diagram summarizes the reported 0.14.0 actions.
Clean the state you mean to clean
Skin dirt/blood are 0–100 in six regions: head, torso, upper arms, forearms/hands, thighs and lower legs/feet. Clothing that still covers a region lets 25% of incoming surface grime reach it. Fighting, butchering, searching corpses, work and bleeding add grime; rain/swimming only partly rinse it and leave residue.
At regional dirt 50+, new wounds can be dirty; existing open wounds can be dirtied when uncleaned, undressed and unsutured. Severity uses the greater of weighted body average and half the worst region. Dirt 50/75 adds 1/2 unhappiness per survival hour. Blood 30/60 adds 1/2 unhappiness and 0.5/1 stress per survival hour.
Wash skin
| Action | Real time / water without mains | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Bath | 20 s / 4 L permitted carried water | Removes 75% dirt/blood |
| Shower | 10 s / 2 L | Removes 60% dirt/blood |
| Sink: Wash Yourself | 6 s / 500 mL from sink remainder or carried water | Hands, arms, head only: 80% dirt and 50% blood; soap clears those regions; +10 wetness |
| Wipe Yourself | 4 s before sponge slowdown; wet wipe 100 mL except in water/rain | Hands, arms, head only; dry removes 25% dirt/10% blood, wet 50%/40% |
Mains washing is free. Bath/shower soap adds 20 percentage points, a clean sponge adds 10, capped at 100%. A dirty sponge loses that bonus. Bath/shower mood relief is limited to once per six survival hours; cleaning is its own result. Dry off afterward.
To wipe, hold a supported cloth, towel, paper towel or sponge and sneak-use in the air, or choose the radial action. Wear/consumption still applies. Bathing skin does not wash worn clothing; use the garment action or laundry machine.
Make and maintain cleaning sponges
Place a dry vanilla sponge block, hold a permitted cutting tool and choose Cut into Cleaning Sponges with G. Completion removes the block, yields four cleaning sponges and wears the tool once. A wet sponge must dry first. This world action is not a crafting-table recipe.
A cleaning sponge has 40 uses; a kitchen sponge 12. At grime 60+ either becomes dirty and jobs take twice as long. Rinsing removes grime without restoring uses. Supported rinse sources include sinks, baths/showers, water, water cauldrons and rain barrels; carried-water rinsing costs 250 mL, mains is free.
Boards, graffiti and blood
Markers write up to four short lines on a whiteboard. The board keeps its written text after the server accepts it. A marker has 30 uses; a supported sponge/cloth wipes in 1.5 real seconds. The board uses a construction-bench recipe and the marker a chemical-lab recipe.
Graffiti scrubbing removes a connected 2×2 paint piece: base 12 real seconds, nine with soap, six with bleach, before a dirty sponge’s slowdown. It requires claim BUILD permission. Dried blood cleanup takes eight seconds or four with bleach. Current bathing/laundry lack that claim permission check; this is a documented limit, not proof every cleaning action has equal permissions.
Current limits
Skin grime does not persist on corpses or change NPC trust/trade. Expanded skin scent, dirty-hand eating disease and sanitation systems remain proposals. Existing clothing blood scent is a separate mechanic. The report’s historical tests do not establish current two-client overlay behavior.
