Communities, claims, jobs and trade

You do not have to rebuild alone. Talk to the survivors you meet, learn what they need and check the work they offer before spending your supplies.

Afterfall 0.14.0Java 1.21.1NeoForge

Talk, trade and recruit

Use a survivor to see their role, faction, mood and reputation toward you, from −100 hostile to 100 allied. They sell their own stock for supply tokens and buy goods at 40% of their value. Skilled survivors can teach a lesson giving 1.5× learning in that skill for 24 survival hours. Aid with food, water, dressings or antivirals affects their memory of you.

Recruitment needs enough reputation and settlement room. Companions follow orders; bandits can rob travellers and some leaders allow a truce. The report lists 15 NPC roles and seven factions: Free Survivors, County Relief Network, Workshop Collective, Road Traders, Marauders, Ash Expedition and End Surveyors.

Native settlements and claims

Press O to found/manage a player settlement, claim chunks, assign roles/permissions, give recruited survivors jobs and beds, and share storehouse supplies. Claims restrict players; they do not keep infected out.

These teams, claims, NPC communities, supply tokens and jobs belong to Afterfall. They do not automatically become Civic Frontier towns, civic currency or Wards. See the conditional integration boundaries.

Take and finish a side job

Talk to a settlement survivor and open Jobs. Defaults allow three open offers/accepted jobs per settlement, two accepted per player, a two-survival-day refresh and a three-survival-day expiry. Failure costs three faction reputation. Three offers is a settlement-board cap, not a guarantee from every NPC.

TemplateWhat completes it
Supply RunDeliver the named/tagged medicine, food or parts; hand-in consumes them atomically
Building ClearanceKill the bound marked-building targets, normally 3–5, then report
Missing PersonSpeak to the bound survivor alive or recover their identity tag; report as required
EscortBring the actual bound traveller alive to the destination; player proximity alone fails
RepairFinish the timed work at the bound generator/pump with listed parts
Fuel DeliveryHand in 2–4 L of requested gasoline/diesel; fluid is drained
LetterBring the bound sealed letter to its actual recipient and confirm
ScoutingObserve the bound site for its detector interval and report
Lost KeepsakeRetrieve the bound stash item and return it
HuntKill the marked dimension-appropriate special infected and report

Generation skips impossible targets and weights offers by role. Rewards are generated/shown before acceptance and paid once: tokens, reputation, goods and sometimes XP/manuals. With full bags, check Collect reward for pending goods. Job progress is tracked separately from campaigns.

A job board is also distinct from decorative bulletin notices. Player-pinned public notes remain planned. Vehicle passengers can help a bound escort, subject to stopped-vehicle/free-seat rules.

Mailboxes and books

Anyone can deposit in a mailbox. Only the owner/shared players withdraw. Placed boxes belong to the placer; generated ownership uses supported house-key/claim rules. Sharing supports eight known players, including prior offline visitors, and deliveries are logged.

Book storage accepts appropriate literature/maps/manuals. Seated reading nearby can improve mood. Computer mail is a separate app.
