Money, cash and the public market

Keep your own wallet separate from the town treasury. At a Trade Counter, read the final quote before buying, selling or withdrawing cash.

Recorded balances and cash

Standalone currency is Civic Credits (CU). With Afterfall present when the economy is created, it is Supply Tokens. Personal wallets, town/nation treasuries, escrow and system accounts are recorded balances. A town’s money is not the mayor’s personal wallet. Changing the provider by adding/removing Afterfall later pauses monetary actions; it is not an exchange service.

Civic Trade Notes represent physical cash in denominations 1, 5, 25, 100, 500 and 1,000, stacking to 64. A withdrawal stamps the issuing world’s UUID and moves backing into an outstanding-notes account. Redemption reverses it. Unstamped, foreign or insufficiently backed redemption is refused. Notes are omitted from the creative tab. Withdrawal permits 1–576 notes per action, with inventory-space checks.

The ten change recipes retain matching valid world stamps and conserve face value. Default Afterfall mode disables Civic Notes unless the server enables Civic Notes for Afterfall currency. Afterfall token crossings have custody safeguards too. Physical banking/market interfaces expose cash actions; the computer Market app exposes buy/sell without cash operations.

Public market goods

A Trade Counter sells resources to the server and buys its representative goods. Tag alternatives are accepted on supply; buying still returns the catalog’s chosen representative, such as oak logs.

Default sell pay is max(1, round(base × 0.55 × index)). Buying uses max(1, round(base × ask factor × index)), then adds 12% tax on the subtotal; ask factor defaults to 1. Check the final screen quote for rounding and taxes. Custom names or other component changes disqualify goods from ordinary public selling.

Players normally sell at most 16 units per good per hour and share public pay caps of 100/hour and 500/24 civic uptime hours, scaled by index, with Starter Work. Creative/spectator players cannot use selling. Buying has no server stock depletion; one request supports 1–2,304 units, subject to payment and carrying capacity. Market sales count toward earnings tax.

What the price index measures

Each hourly update measures all stored player-wallet and town-account balances plus outstanding notes, divided by the active-player count and 150,000 reference. Active means online or seen within seven days; the numerator still includes all stored player/town accounts. It is a money-balance index, not a survey of item prices.

Defaults: floor 1, no upper ceiling, at most 10% movement per hourly update, rounded to three decimals. Base prices and indexed quotes are different values. Do not apply indexing twice or apply it to explicitly flat charges such as Ward turn-away fees.

Public purse and partial targeted mode

In standalone open mode, public pay may create money when the public purse cannot cover it. The inspected targeted path already blocks that fallback, so an empty purse can refuse payment. A full target-refill controller and clearing queue remain planned. With Afterfall currency, public-market token creation is allowed by default through its own server setting. A setting named targeted does not establish the complete planned R6 economy.
