Set up WaterMedia: Binaries

Install WaterMedia’s required companion for Afterfall TV and online radio, and check what still works without it.

Why this companion is installed

WaterMedia: Binaries supplies native FFmpeg libraries and on-demand helper providers for WaterMedia. A consuming mod supplies the visible television, radio or display. Binaries alone adds no media block, crafting progression, menu, command or keybind. It is third-party software by SrRapero720 / WaterMedia Team, rather than a mod created by Everythingstartup.

The supplied Afterfall setup uses watermedia-binaries-3.0.0.6.jar together with watermedia-3.0.0.23.jar in a Minecraft 1.21.1 / NeoForge client instance with Java 21. The reports did not launch this pair, load natives or rebuild the Afterfall distributable. Compatibility remains a check for the exact consuming build.

Install for the playback client

  1. Check the consuming mod’s version-specific instructions. Binaries 3.0.0.6 declares WaterMedia >=3.0.0.22; the supplied pair is 3.0.0.23. The metadata minimum does not certify arbitrary future releases.
  2. Place both JARs in the playback client’s instance mods folder with the compatible consuming mod. Each Afterfall multiplayer listener needs the pair locally. In the supplied Afterfall instructions, the optional media pair is not required on its dedicated server; other consumers can differ.
  3. Start the client normally. If linked playback is unavailable, check the startup log for the selected platform, preparation result and main-library loading result. Extraction alone is not proof the decoder loaded.
  4. Use the consuming mod’s controls: Afterfall television or radio. The expected result is linked media through that feature once resolution, decoder and output are ready. This is an observation to check, not a result tested here.
  5. Allow asynchronous resolution/loading. Online sources may request a helper on first use according to Afterfall’s instructions. A helper is separate from the native FFmpeg payload already bundled in the companion.

Windows ARM64 JVMs have a confirmed static resource mismatch in this build: the classifier can request an FFmpeg archive absent from the JAR. This is not a reproduced launch failure. Helper ARM64 support does not fill that missing archive, and no emulation or translation setup was tested.

Fallbacks and device checks

Afterfall’s emergency television broadcast belongs to Afterfall and can remain usable without the optional pair. Original/server-file radio music is also separate; linked video, internet streams and YouTube-linked audio use the pair. A working block or fallback is not proof that linked playback is ready.

Afterfall TV can attempt silent graphics when audio has no context. Radio needs audio and fails without a context. Check the device and consuming feature’s volume as well as the native preparation logs. Installing Binaries alone does not supply shared playback, tower coverage, permissions or a station timeline.

Admin & server owner reference

For Afterfall playback clients, install WaterMedia 3.0.0.23 with Binaries 3.0.0.6, select a native resource using OS/JVM architecture, prepare or reuse files by version, then check main-library native loading. Server-side companion startup skips FFmpeg extraction.

Original explanatory diagram based on the supplied report, pages 3, 5, 8-9. It illustrates reported behavior; no runtime test was performed.

Pairing and labels

Binaries’ mod ID is watermedia_binaries; the display name is WaterMedia: Binaries. The main library directly constructs the companion class during its module-list setup. Treat this distribution as paired despite the main Fabric metadata’s missing explicit companion dependency.

Binaries has a reported Release file label with RC changelog wording; the paired main library has a Beta file label and RC wording. Those labels are distinct from tested runtime stability. WaterMedia 3 also has breaking integration changes: 3.0.0.23 changes start() / startPaused() from void to boolean, so the actual dependent binary may need rebuilding.

Configuration responsibility

No independent companion TOML configuration class was identified. Main-library quality, decoder, cache and network settings belong to WaterMedia. The companion’s helper overrides are Java system properties, not slash commands or Minecraft menu entries. No launcher setting, user file or server was changed for this documentation.
